      Aww...thanks Maureen!
It just seemed so expensive for 9 chooks.....but it should keep the foxes at bay during the day- (don't tell anyone- but I've paid a bit more so it can have extra length added...so I can get more chooks eventually)

Happy birthday for the 12th. (Won't ask how old) I want to treat myself both to electric fence and automatic opener. I'm just too thick to understand exactly what I need and OH keeps telling me we don't need it so won't help me order it on internet. (I'm sure however, that if I buy it he will fit it all.)

The plot next to me has an electric fence around their chicken area and the council made them put a "safety fence" up around it so that no one gets electrocuted (seriously).
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

You need 1. Netting and stakes (usually come with netting)
                      2. Energiser (mains or Battery*)
3.Line out cable (To connect fence to energiser**)

*If using battery you should buy one listed as a leisure battery. The higher the amp/hour rating, the longer it will last between charges.you will also need a good charger. The cheap ones from Halfords etc.are rubbish and will cost you more in batteries in the long run.

**You can have the energiser a long way from the fence eg.locked up in a shed.

                      Hope this helps
                      Ben.

P.S. With a electric pen you won't need to shut your Hens in at night.I've had mine for 2 years in a Fox-rich area and had no problem. They go in and out as they please.

                        Aww...thank you all!!!

I'm so excited about the fence!
I've ordered it from UK and it should arrive next week.
The company have been fantastic I have to say...they're even including a European connection for me - plus a few extra freebies.
I'll take a photo of it up and running- and hope that those of you already with electric fencing will advise me how to alter the layout????

                        ....ooooooo

bendm....good to hear your chooks have been fine- we have 5 foxes in the field 100yds from the coop ( granite pigsty with 1" thick oak door)...I'm crossing fingers my gals and guys can go out during the day when I'm not in....you've made me feel a lot more confident in the system I've bought!! ( how high is yours???? this one is 1.2m high fine mesh)

                              mesh

                              Hi Nicos,
Mines the 1.2m mesh.Do not worry about your Hens,m8.
As long as its always hot,you won't have any bother with foxes at any time.
I reckon it keeps rats out as well!
Once they touch it,thats it,they stay away.
It has the same effect on my Jack Russell, and she would kill hens for a pass time.
Don't let too much grass etc.grow up the mesh,as it will reduce the 'belt'from the fence.
                              Good Luck.
