    Is it a cold?

    Morning grapes, I was down feeding the girl's this morning and was met with a very wheezy Marge. Intensive laboured breathing,runny nose, empty crop and very smelly breath.

    I wouldn't normally worry when Marge sounds husky as that is how she inherited her name, but even when she had the wheezies before they weren't as bad as this time. Every breath looks to be a struggle, with the a sneeze/cough every 4 or 5 breaths.

    All the rest seem fine to the point they had me running round the garden this morning in nothing but a big ole baggy t'shirt (I sure hope my neighbours weren't watching).

    I can't decide whether it's a cold or something more serious, any ideas?

      Yep, check with your vet Sheena. I went yesterday with Lily, the vet gave me 5 bags of antibiotics to mix with 10 litres of water daily to share amongst all my runs for 5 days.

      Im glad its going to be sunny today, should mean they drink lots of water!

      This morning all my girls seemed well in themselves, just annoyed they werent allowed to play out in the garden like they would normally. They were definitely heckling me from their runs!

        Sadly Marge didn't make it long enough for me to take her to the vet, bless her x

              I'm getting better at dealing with the deaths tho, usually I have to get someone else to handle them when they have died.

              Today I was a big girl and did it all by myself! I'm happy that I finally managed to do it, but losing a life don't make up for it. Why does it always happen to the one's become attached to?

                Sorry to hear it Sheena but if it was mycoplasmosis you need to keep a close eye on the others in case they develop symptoms too.

                  Doesn't make any difference if it's one you're attached to or not. In the two years (nearly) that I've had Chooks, I've cried over every one I've lost. Even the vicious, miserable, unsociable, disagreeable Rooster that I can't bring myself to 'deal with' coz he's cute. And he's still alive to attack again another day.
