  • Can my Chooks eat these?

    Hi All,

Had a clean out of my kitchen cupboard this afternoon [scary what I found years old]

I have found two bags of dried marrowfat peas, mung beans [dried and un-sprouted] and some porridge oats.

Can these be fed to the cooks as an afternoon treat, if so will they need to be dried/cooked?

    I wouldn't give them uncooked.
Is this a belated "spring clean" or is it your 'ormones! !!!!

I wouldnt feed the peas or beans uncooked. But they'll eat the beans sprouted. And oats will do no harm uncooked, but they adore porridge nice and warm. So thats how mine get theirs, although the first time I gave them porridge they looked at me as if I was trying to kill them..until they actually ate some. Now if I want to dissapear under a heap of chooks I just put down a tray of hot garlic porridge (powder or cloves they dont care) Its nectar as far as they are concerned

What do you think if I soaked the peas for 24 hours first, the beans as well for that matter. I also found a full bag of red split dried lentills, any ideas................

P.S. suechooks it got to the piont where I'd neot been in the back of the cupboard sinc 2004 [oldest dateed item!] this is because I'm 5' 3" & my other half is 6' 4" and he puts things back at his arms length and I never see them again ha ha!

Chuck all the pulses in a big pot of water and boil them up till they're squidgy. don't give the chooks too much at once, spread it out over a few days and make sure they've had their "balanced diet" first. If they like it they'll eat it
