  • Windowsill Growing

    Hello
I'm new on here (first time today). I really want to grow salad stuff and herbs but I only have windowsills available (zero outdoor space). Will this work? Does it matter which way the window faces?

Any tips, comments very welcome - I'm a real numpty beginner I'm afraid.
    Thanks

Welcome to the vine Emielou! All growing things will need light - you get more direct sun light in a south facing window than a north facing one - so plants grow tall, thin and pale in a north facing window. If I were you I'd experiment with one of those trays of growing mixed salad you can buy in the supermarket and see how it goes! Have you tried any of those pots of herbs in you window yet?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Welcome to the vine emielou, do you have scope for growing in window boxes or hanging baskets. I'ts nice to have garden space but not essential.

Hello and welcome to the vine emielou, like Jeanied says a south window would be best.

To help prevent your plants growing too leggy cover a piece of card with kitchen foil and stand your plants between that and the window.
        Location....East Midlands.

          Fab, thanks everyone.
I am restricted to indoor windowsills because my windows open outwards - inadvertent cropping would occur lol!
I did try some little pot herbs from the supermarket last year when I lived in a house with a balcony.
I can't wait to get some seeds tonight. I have some South East and some South West windows so I'll use those.

What's wrong with being tall, thin and pale!?

Alright, maybe I'm not so thin anymore, but still...
