  • Wild Garlic

    Good Afternoon

I see many TV Chefs using wild garlic but I don't know where to get it from? Is it from hedgrows? Can the seeds/bulbs be bought from garden centres although I've never seen them for sale?

I don't think you can buy it usually to grow yourself. The WG we have was dug up from some neighbouring woodlands and replanted in our orchard.

It usually grows in woods etc - it likes damp shady spots.

Quite a few veg-box suppliers often have it in. All mine has gone to seed and died off now, it has a fairly short season.

You could check in woods etc and maybe dig up a small amount for your garden etc. You only need a little bit, as if you let it flower and seed, it spreads. However, it does spread quite a lot. Plant somewhere you don't mind being over-run!

You can buy seeds off ebay and I think suppliers like the Organic Gardening Cat sell it also but I've never bought it.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

You shouldn't really take plants from the wild remember!
Now if someone on private property would let you have some seeds or bulbs.....

You can buy them from ebay, I did and sowed them in a disused field...have not checked them yet. I have some in my garden too.

Jekka's herb farm had this in bulb form, but out of stock now. I was going to grow it in some pots, but figured I wouldn't get much from it with the short season and small amount that would fit in it.

Hope you get hold of some (I did in my organics box), it's really yummy!

It grows really easily with the right conditions. Infact I have heard some grapes complaining that it rather takes hold like a weed. I would buy some seed and have a go if you are still up for it

Right now, mine had all it's flowers chopped off as I don't want it to seed everywhere.

If you go here they have tons and tons and tons of the stuff.

Should be seeding any time soon.....

If you are still around when mine dies back [which it is starting to do now], I will PM you and you can pick up a handful of bulbs from me....I would offer to send some but I'm unbelievably scatty at the moment and would just forget.
