  • White eggs

There are some little white eggs in my runner bean pots. Does anybody know what they can be and what should I do. I would put a pic up but can't work it out yet. Thanks

Hi all I posted a pic on Facebook and a lady on there told me they were fly eggs, she also told me to throw out the pot with the runner bean in it.
I've scooped out all the eggs but the seed looks like it's doing well. Should I do as she says or should I keep it. Thanks. Amanda

I'd say keep it - should be fine. All sorts of things lay eggs in different places, but generally flies lay them on dead animals or dead plants - whereas slugs and snails just put them in a damp spot in the soil.

When gardening in normal conditions you have to accept that there's a natural world out there and some members of it will be looking to feed themselves and that includes eating your plants. As the weather is now there are fewer problems with damp-loving pests but as a trade-off, if you want to grow veg it will almost certainly require daily watering

Hover flies lay eggs near plants with aphids. I’d keep the plant,no reason to throw it away, flies lay eggs whatever you do don’t worry about it,if it was brassicas & a root fly that’s a problem & you can get brassica collars to stop them but runner beans don’t have that problem.
