  • Whats everyone sowing now ? 5th Aug

Hi all! I’m pretty new to this and was just wondering what everyone was sowing now I have a greenhouse and allotment so can use both. I’ve put in some beets onions carrots radish’s but was wondering if there’s anything else I can throw in. What sort of stuff should I be doing now ready for winter ect any tips like that would really help thanks in advance

    Hi Ryora welcome along...

I've sown some lettuce recently - though its probably gone too hot again to expect much from that.
Maybe spring cabbage and overwintering onions.
I'm a bit out of kilter with things this year due to the heat and lack of rain.

^^^ If this weather keeps up we might all start doing a bit more Mediterranean style gardening... especially true if you live in sunshiny South Wales I suppose

Well I have sown carrots (Nantes 5) turnip, Radicchio. beetroot and swiss chard. I have spring cabbage plants growing (just showing first leaves). However, I had to put bug killer on them as something is chewing the leaves.

Anybody trying leeks from seeds now!?

            Bill

I stuck a few runner beans in yesterday - pretty late, but maybe I'll get a few beans from them if the weather stays warm.
Today, I've sown walking onions and two kinds of welsh onions, put my nicely sprouted turmeric roots in, sown some swiss chard and some florence fennel (a bit late according to some sites and right on time according to others). I was going to sow some chicory too, but I ran out of steam.

Hi Ryora and welcome from sunshiny South Wales (Baldy is jealous - because its always raining wherever he is).
The magazine usually arrives about the beginning of the month but if you've just subscribed and yours hasn't arrived, it could be that your sub will start next month, maybe?

I'm sowing some Dwarf runner beans today in the recycling box I've just emptied some Charlotte's out of, thought when the weather gets cooler the box can be dragged into my GH.

I put in some Autumn King Carrots on the weekend (they've been growing inside for some time),
I put some more mangetoutes in last week, and they are now sprouting nicely in the greenhouse.
