  • What herbs are best to grow in these small pots?

I am brand new at this and have been thinking about growing my own herbs for a while now and recently I was given a set of 12 small pots along with a magazine subscription as a belated birthday present. The thing is I don't know where to start.

The small pots are clay and are 7 centimeters tall and 9 and a half centimeters wide and there is a pictureof them here. Set of Twelve Plant Pots in Rustic Wooden Crate

What herbs would you recommend to grow in these pots?

You could enlarge your growing options by lining the crate and planting in there too.

I have had good luck with Chives in pots. Garlic Chives are a bit bigger and h ave white flowers instead of pinky/purple. You are not supposed to let either flo,wer but I do, as I like the flowers.

Basil is supposed to be good, others seem to grow it well, but not been a lucky plant for me.

You could look in the garden centre herb section and see which plants seem to be doing well in a pot and which you like the look of, then maybe get yourself some seeds and grow from scratch for a bit more fun.

I guess something like Pot Marjoram would not get too big if you kept harvesting bits.

Maybe grow several pots of the things you choose, to allow them to rest a bit after harvesting?

Greek basil would be lovely as it's more compact than normal basil.
      Curled leaf parsley?
Thyme is low growing...maybe margoram ?

I usually have a couple of small pots like that of Chives on the go. They are small enough to bring indoors for a week, used, then popped outside to recover for a while while i use another pot in the same way...

Not saying that's the best way of doing it (it probably isn't) but it's the way I've found most effective.
