I have found a large flat builders trowel great for weeding, its sharp and cuts through the earth, and you can pick up and discard the weeds as well as chop up any earth for planting....

Nice idea SPC - I use an old large kitchen knife. Easy to use,cuts off the roots of weeds and the soil doesn't stick to it like a trowel.Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.
