  • Tomato yield & harvest

    Hi

This year, for the first time in three years, I currently have a reliable crop of tomatoes coming through.

What is the best way to harvest these? Also I have pinched out the growing tips after 4 cordons were set...once harvested will further tomatoes grow or will the only crop be from the 4 original cordons?

    Thanks!

When you say four, do you mean four fruiting bunches up the main stem? If so then the main stem is the cordon and the fruiting bits are trusses (apologies if I've misunderstood). If this is what you meant then no, you won't get any more fruit but you just harvest as each fruit us ripe.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Hello Lough & welcome to the vine. In addition to Alisons' reply, are they in a greenhouse or outside? If outside keep an eye out for blight, you will notice the stems going brown/black. I tend to remove toms as they are starting to ripen, some leave them on the plant till fully ripe. I also don't bother nipping out the tips as I'm too lazy so they just climb wherever they want & get tied in.
