  • 'Thingy in the yard'

    Hi Guys,
My hubby has built me a 'Thingy in the yard', we dont have a garden so he kindly built me a 'space' to have a go at growin our own veggies, it's 10' long by 3' wide and 3' deep.

i could do with some idea about what to grow in this space if poss, thinking about salad veggies, peas, carrots, parsnips and winter greens. i plan on potatoes but heard you can grow those in an old compost bag?

do you think these will be ok?

    Thanks

Sounds a great idea, not sure parsnips will work though as they need a very deep root space. But I am sure someone with more no how than me will tell you

3 feet deep - you'll be able to grow fantastic Parsnips! Sounds good to me!

go for it,at that size you can grow what you fancy, but grow spuds in containers, frees up space for things like perpetual strawbs, melons etc and other mouthwatering goodies, have a great time(choosing will be the hard part)..

I'm growing pots in compost bags this year. Check out Tattieman's videos here:-

Also doing the square foot gardening as my plots are 10 x 2 and 4 x 3. Not growing parsnips only because they take so long to grow and they're cheaper to buy. Things like Purple Sprouting Broccoli cost a lot more so I grow that as we love it.

Hope it goes well for you Linda.
