Default Starting fruit and vegetable garden from scratch

I'm moving into a house that comes with half an acre of landscaped garden and would like to start a fruit and veg patch for 2 adults and 2 children. Advice wanted please on what to plant now. Thank you, Helianthus.

Not much you can plant in the middle of winter, tbh.

After Xmas you can get cracking with onions, leeks, tomatoes and chillies under glass.

In the meantime take a few weeks to plan how you want it to look & the best place to grow them (Where does the sun rise & set), grow what your family enjoy eating. There's nothing worse than growing loads of veg that is to be wasted. Then sit back, look through the seed catalogues & enjoy Christmas. Come January you will have a plan & be raring to go........That's what I'd do anyway.

Oh! Welcome to the vine Helianthus.

Are you thinking of planting a few small apple/pear/plum/cherry trees?
Pot rooted trees can go in now.
Do you have a specific area in mind?
It'd be best to draw a plan of what's there now, where is the best place for the vegs-( not too much shade and not too near trees with lots of surface roots) - and where you'd prefer the site to be.- (you made need to compromise on the location)
Planning and ground preparation now- and planting out in the spring!
There are some veg you can plant out at the moment- how desperate are you to start the planting rather than the preparing???

I'm quite chuffed with myself for thinking similar to a Guru................
