  • Stalking Onions

I read somewhere that onions should have their stalks broken a few days before harvesting. Is this true?

    No

They are ready for harvesting when they fall over, but RHS guidelines now say not to break them, as they can rot if you do so.

no need to break the stems, they will flop over on their own and it wont risk infection that would be possible if you broke them..good luck

i find when im stalking onions a good trick is to creep up on them with the wind blowing towards you. that way you catch them red handed before they get a chance to bolt.
a good put down line to use !

If having brains was a fatal disease, you would be the only survivor.

Cheers. Tasty as the ones thus far are, I doubt they and the tatties would be enough to sustain me throughout the winter.

            Thank goodness for Tescos.
