    Default Shredded paper for compost?

We shred all our confidential waste at work (well, I do anyway) and I've got 3 bags full of white shredded paper.

Can I take it home and put it in my compost (bit by bit obviously!). I usually use torn up newspaper as layers between my veg peelings etc.

    Will it be ok?

    Cheers

    OWG

I put all my shredded paper on the compost, after its been used for guinea pig bedding. Mixed with 'greens' on the heap it rots down perfect.

We shred everything we can for the compost bin and add it along with most cardboard as well, torn up into smaller bits.

we put unshredded paper in too sometimes! It works and the worms seem happy. It's about getting proportions right though I believe.

My compost is very "green", and with not much "brown" in, hence why we started adding newspaper.

I just thought that since I have access to vast quantities of shredded paper, they might be useful!

I've started digging holes on my allotment and filling em with shredded paper. The idea is it acts like a sponge and keeps water in the ground, like a bean trench (all my butts are full up).

You can also put it in the bottom of bean trenches without composting it first. Helps retain moisture and rots down fine
