  • Shallots and Garlic

    Hi all....
Im about to plant shallots and garlic. Do I need to cover them with something to protect from birds? Netting or some sort? what do you suggest. Also, what about frost?

Netting might be advisable if you have inquisitive birds - they sometimes pull them out before they have had a chance to form good roots.

They don't need any frost protection though.

If you net them, don't worry if you see some lying on the soil as they can tend to push themselves out.

I always plant a few spares at the end of the row so if any dont take you can transplant a growing spare. I hate gaps in rows it drives me mad.

Thats a good idea. A gap would annoy me too! OCD...
