Sad Garlic plants - i think

    Sad Garlic plants - i think

    So i have two little tubs, one with 4 and one with 5 garlic plants in (from garden centre)

    It says on the label to plant them out into propper tubs, but i'm waiting to go get some decent soil for my pots, and unsure if i'm supposed to plant them all out as they are or seperate them? I'm worried about the roots and what it will do to the garlic if i damage them.

    Either way, about 3 days after i brought them home they started going a bit limp and bendy over and i dont know what im doing wrong.
    over watering? underwatering? they are inside on southfacing windowsil at the moment.
    or maybe they just need taking out into big pot asap???

    :-/ i love garlic i dont want to kill them :-(

    I think that they will be too warm on a south facing windowsill, Kirstie. Garlic is tough as old boots, so put your tubs outside.

    I would have no worries about disturbing the roots when you come to plant out - empty the pot and pull each plant apart wit your hands keeping a clump of pot soil with each. You can plant one garlic per 6-8" pot, I would say, or 4 in a 12" pot.

        Did you plant them as whole bulbs or split them into individual cloves Kirstie ? you probably know but just in case,the bulbs should be split into cloves,then everything Hazel said ^^,I set mine with an 1" -1 1/2" of soil on the tip.

          bought them last week in the pots (4 in one 5 in another) from the garden centre

              Then it sounds like they were already seperated into individual cloves, its when you buy a whole garlic you have to split them up. As has been said before put them outside and get them repotted asap.

                  I have found garlic to be very forgiving. I planted some in 2012 and promptly neglected it. It didn't form cloves so I just left it and neglected it again, thinking that at least it would compost. Guess what? It is happily growing and looks like a strong wee plant already. I moved it when I saw the shoots a few weeks ago so will see how it goes this year with some tlc.
                  When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
                  If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

                    Ahh but will it make a difference that they were already plants?

                    This is what they look like, put them outside at lunch time

                      I'm also successfully killing my mint plant :-(

                        Left hand plant looks like basil and yes the mint has a bit of greenfly. Squish them with your fingers. You probably don't want to be spraying chemicals on something you are going to eat.

                          Should be ok Kirstie, the garlic was about 4"-5" tall when I moved it.

                          And don't worry about the pics. With me around I am sure the lovely grapes here on the forum are used to tilting their heads to one side and squinting at my pics Try taking your piccy in landscape - it works for me (when I remember).
                          When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.

                            Every1 says ooh basil but its not its mint... Maybe it's because it's all wilty and dying on me.

                            Hmm can't seem to flip pics on iPhone booo.
                            If I squish them will they come back? Where did the little buggers come from?
                            Do they do damage or are they harmless?

                              Mint is almost impossible to kill. Yours looks like it is starved of light and has grown leggy, that would be better off outside too. If it was me i would cut it off at the soil level (thus getting rid of most of the aphids, and it will rise phoenix like from the ashes. Needs a bigger pot too.You will soon have more mint than you can shake a leg of lamb at.
