  • Rotten chillis?

    Hi all chilli growers,

After some slow development (!) I finally have lots of green chillies starting to come through, but noticed quite a few of them are developing odd black patches - some more widespread and shiny, some more like a collection of dots.

I was planning on potting them and moving them inside for winter this weekend but if there's a problem with them I wont bother.

    Any ideas?

Some of mine do that before they go red.

If the patches go soft and brown, pick off and bin the pepper.

Some chillies look like that as they start to ripen. Just keep a close eye on them

Looks like insect damage to me.

Could well be, although the leaves all look surprisingly fine. I thought it was maybe pre-ripening but some of them have been like that for a while now! Saying that there hasnt really been any sunshine!

I guess its worth bringing them inside and seeing if they do ripen?

Check for caterpillars or slugs they often go for the chillies and leave the leaves alone.
