  • Propergating

    Hi all,

my aubergine seeds have nearly all sprouted, should I be taking the lid off my propergator now? They are growing in the house?

    Thanks very much

I think I would let them all germinate first and grow a bit. They like warmth about 60c.

      Thanks very much.
there are only 4 out of 40 (I know, I was worried they wouldn't grow) which have not sprouted yet. the ones which have sprouted are nearly touching the propergator lid. Also, the room they are in is the warmest in the house, due to a marine fish tank. They are getting quite a bit of condensation inside the propergator. How do you know when it is time to put them into bigger pots?
      Thanks again

If they are touching the lid then I would pot them up. The warmth of the room sounds ideal for them so I would pot them into 3 inch pots or Jiffy pots and stand them on a tray (to catch any water or muck) and keep them in the same room. Remember to hold them carefully by one leaf and not the stem when potting up.

I LOVE aubergines. That 40 isn't including the 12 white aubergine plants in a different propergator.
We get through about one a day in the summer so I'm sure they won't get wasted.

We have loads of BBQ's in the summer, so have one sliced, covered with olive oil and BBQ'd. Or sometimes with grilled meat, or in thai curry, or with lamb, or in salads (cooked though). Mmmmmm.
