  • Proper Poorly Pepper Problem!!!

    Help!!!!! Please!!!!
My pepper plants are looking very green and healthy, and the flowers seem to be growing well...however after a while disaster strikes and the flower stems go black where they join the main plant stem, and then eventually the whole thing drops off ! ( Yes V C very painful!!!!)
This seems to be happening to pretty well all of the flowers, though I have just noticed that one seems to starting to set a fruit.
    Any ideas????

I'm keeping quiet this time - mainly because I don't grow peppers so I'd just be making it up (as usual)

The purple/black colouring is very common on peppers and chillies and isn't the problem. Your flowers are falling off because they haven't been pollinated I think.

        Thanks Rustylady...
So un pollinated flowers would eventually rot the whole stem, not just the flower?
How do I aid pollination? ....keep it clean V C !!!!!!!!!!

It may well be due to them not being pollinated but I've had this happen to flower buds long before they even thought about opening and I've also had it happen with open flowers...and with tiny fruit showing! (the latter being on my chilli plants, not sweet peppers).
I have no idea what causes it but patience has delivered lots of (still green at the moment) fruit. I must have watched as many buds/flowers fall off as not, but two plants are currently promising 60+ chilli pods and my sweet peppers, small as they are, have provided quite a few fruit too, though not nearly as many as the chillies.
If the roots have plenty of room and they get plenty of water then time will hopefully fix the rest, at least that was my experience anyway.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

I'm so pleased to see you Pa!
Can you have a man-to-man talk with Bradlo as he seems to have something on his mind other than the state of his peppers

Really? What seems to be troubling our Bradders then? It's not........girls!!!, is it?
Oh well, I'm always available with a sympathetic, non-judgemental ear. As long as 'my flower shrivels and falls off' isn't a euphemism, in which case it's a doctor that's needed.

Check out this post. I have had the same problem and both the threads where these post appear would seem relevant to your problem.

Between you and me, Pa, I think he has a few problems in the greenhouse department - we've discussed his courgettes, cucumbers, tomatoes and now his peppers - and it doesn't matter what it is, I always seem to be blamed
So not........." girls " - more old biddies
