  • Onion Sets....floppy foliage??

I planted some onion sets last month in a small strip i had empty, at first they seemed pretty dormant then over the last couple to three weeks they've gone mad, they're so long that the foliage is straggling on the ground, is this normal, will they become damaged or isn't anything to worry about??

Hi VM - know what you mean - mine have been growing straggly as well 'cos I put them in too early! I'm hoping they'll be fine but if it gets really wet I'm going to cover them to keep them from rotting.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I seem to remember this happened to my autumn onions planted last October. I just left them alone, and they were fine. I think the foliage begins to thicken in the spring, or it's just a gradual process in the winter and I didn't notice! We had some lovely onions from end of May, and have just finished using them recently.

Thanks for the comments, I guess I'll not worry to much about but I will keep an eye on them. Jeanied, what did you mean "you'll cover them to stop rotting" what will you use for this.......... sorry if this a really stupid question but I'm very new to this and trying to get up to speed.
