  • Oh no my Melons!!

Hi guys i have done something really stupid, i sowed a bunch of honeydew melons in a big pot about a month ago and left i underneath the stairs next to the boiler, it is about 30 degrees in there and i can t believe i forgot about it, anyway i just found them now and the earth is bone dry but there alll eveywhere tangling outside the pot. They are reallly fragile an i have already broken 2 already. I am putting them outside because they are desperat for sunlight, they should have a lot of levaes but they only have those two that they germinate with. So i am wondering will they recover and will i get fruit from them, and isit to early to exspose them to sunlight.

I think going from 30C to straight outside might shock them. I would bring them inside and stand the pots in water to get some moisture back into the soil. I'm afraid I can't say if they will survive but I think you still have enough time to sow some more. Sorry this is not much help but I'm sure other grapes will be along soon with more advice.

Might still be a bit cold. Mine are inside on the windowsill along with courgettes and cucs and probably won't be going out until the beginning of May.

If they had been without light for so long, and dried out as well, I would think they have been too stressed to make it to successful fruiting, even if they survive. It isn't too late to sow again if you have any more seeds, and that way you would have more chance of success.

Hi Greasy, pm me your address and I'll send you a few Honeydew plants (take a chance that they'll arrive safely) but I have some spare.
