  • Mushrooms in my compost

I recently purchased some peat free compost from a well know diy shop rhyming with me and you. I wasn't entirely happy with it, it seamed too twiggy to me.

Anyway, I potted up my chillies and a week later I have little mushrooms emerging from the pots.
    Will this harm my plants?

    Cheers,
    Nick

I wouldn't worry about them (remove them if you like).

So the fungus in the soil wont effect the roots?

Not that I know of, no. I've seen plenty of "mushroom" type things growing in potting compost over the years, never had a problem with any of them.

No, because the fungus is eating the wood in the compost ... it's what it does. Fungi are very good cleaner-uppers of the forest floor. Without them we'd be neck high in dead wood
