  • How/when to use compost!

    I have two large (full) compost bins in the garden that have been doing their "thing" since spring last year. the bottom contents are now (I think) ready to use, but I'm not sure how.

    Do I;
    a. Spread it all over the veggi' patch before planting and dig it in, or
    b. Spread it "around" the plants as they come up as an extra food boost?

    I'm going to add a good layer of manure before I do anything (if I can find some in High Wycombe) and dig that in, but what to do with the "home grown" stuff?

    Any help much appreciated, Graham.

    Its more of a soil conditioner than a feed. I usually rake some into the top two or three inches at planting/sowing time. It helps retain moisture for young seedlings.
