    Help!When can i start to harden off?

    Hi
    I have peppers,chillis,aubergines all roughly 2inches high in pots on my windowsill. Tomatoes also, but a bigger, all are in 3inch pots.
    I also have feltham first peas & pinto beans in 9 inch pots climing up canes on a windowsill.
    I am just wondering when i can start to harden them off putting them out first in the day then placing in a cold frame is it just before last predicted frost (hope not because thats May i think for here) is it too cold at the moment.
    It's my first time growing & as much as i love my little plants i have family coming to stay in 2 weeks & I'm aware the house is looking funny with windowsills full to the brim with plants!.

    Well, apart from the peas which you can hjarden off straight away and plant out after a week or so, I wouldn't put any of those out except under glass in the day. And I bring mine all in at night. We had a minus temperature last night here.
    I think you ae way too early with the pinto beans. Mine will go in at the end of April. They come through and grow fast so by June they'll be up for a climb!

      Generally speaking, you start to harden off a week or two before you want to plant them outside.

      As Flum says, it's way too early to be even thinking of putting the tender veg outside.

        My peas have been waiting to go outside for a few weeks now, (also feltham firsts) but we have been building and filling a new raised bed. The peas are trying to climb up everything and one has a flower on now!!

          Thanks, oh well i'll just have to hope the family staying will grow to love my little plants as much as me & don't mind them been all over my windowsill! ha!.
          I'm aware my pintos were sown early i got them in one of them kits with little instruction at the very beginning of my new hobby so just did them with my eager little one then when i looked them up later i realised! eek!, they are really healthy though so far climbing high up the canes & loving my sunny windowsill.
          Should i start hardening off the peas then for a week or two outside? they will be grown in the container not planted out so after a couple of weeks of hardening will they be ok to be left outside to the elements.

              I've just popped them outside. Do they still need to be brought in at night then like when hardening other plants etc?

                yes, everything that's spent its whole life indoors in the warm needs hardening off before going outside in the cold

                  Yep I know but didnt have anywhere to put them...however it did remind me to start hardening them off, so thanks for that
