  • Hardening off

I have been putting my peas out every day for a week and all is well and they are looking really healthy. The weather forecast says that the lowest overnight temperature will be 5 degrees. Do you think it's safe to leave them out overnight with those kind of temperatures? I know I'll have to bring them in if there is a liklihood of frost, but otherwise can they just stay out now?

    Thanks

Peas are meant to be hardy, I already have some planted outside under bottle cloches (I didn't have a chance to harden them off, there roots were getting too long for the modules) and others that I sowed outside under fleece are coming up already. The fleece is more a protection against cats and birds, not for warmth!

They should be fine outside overnight now. As Jenegade says, you could plant them out if you have space ready for them?

Some of mine were hardened off over a week ago and are now outside, come what may! The rest that are getting to planting out stage will go outside this weekend for a few days. They are fairly tough things.

Thanks everyone, that's reassuring. Is there a general rule about how to harden off the more tender plants - except of course bringing them in if there is a frost due?

I put out during the day for a week or 10 days, always bringing in at night.
