    Why do you need grit?

That looks like good multi purpose compost to me .. no need to add grit unless you have very heavy clay soil

I just use builders sand when I'm making my JI type compost!

I thought road grit was rock salt or is there another kind?
I'm with Two Sheds on this one - have you got a specific problem with the soil?

its mainly for drainge. the compost gets soaked when raining hard.
so sharp builders sand is ok then
