  • First ripe tomatoes.

Today I picked my first four ripe tomatoes. One Shirley and three Gardeners Delight.
I made a sandwich of the tomatoes, onions and cheese with lots of black pepper. Absolutely delecious and well worth the long wait. Hope this is the first of many.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Yum! I can't wait for mine to ripen, have a few green ones but mostly still at the flowering stage. I'm probably gonna be making a lot of green tomato chutney this year if things don't pick up soon.

Mine are all green!! I think I have several weeks before they turn red, the OP must have started early, I expect they are in a greenhouse unlike mine?

There is a good growth time-line here

My biggest would be at about day 24 (estimate) so long way to go for me!!
I am probably looking at mid September!!!

Also a lot are still at the flowering stage!!

                    First ripe tomatoes

Well, as everybody is doing it, I'm going to to join the bragging queue. The first tom. I grew was a commercially grown "Black Cherry". I scoured the label but it said nothing about size, removing side shoot or even if it was determinate or indeterminate. So, I stuck it in a big pot to do it's own thing. Next to nothing in the way of side shoots, but endless growth. I've had to remove the growing tip because it is beyond my picking point. ( bare feet - standing flat - I am 5'7" ) I I hadn't picked the top out it would have carried along the ridge of the GH. I know all the arguements about tying then to the top of the GH, but having been bereaved just over a year ago I am still struggling to keep up with the garden. Now, what's all that dust on the on the sideboard. It looks as tho' it hasn't been touched since.......

Most of mine are at about day 26 according to that timeline so it looks like I've got a way to go yet! I have had one ripe tomato from a balconi red and one from a golden peardrop but those were bought as plants and not sown from seed like the others.
