  • Cutting Questions

-Do you use rooting hormone? Or is it not necessary?

-Does it really matter when you take a cutting? I've read that you can only take certain cuttings at certain times of the year. But, I've taken all sorts of cuttings in the pst few months and they've all worked!

i have another question re: rooting hormone - is there one that you can use on edibles? All the ones i have seen say do not use on edibles.....

I never use rooting hormone powder.

The advice you've read on times of the year for taking cuttings are based on what is most likely to be successful and probably quite important to commercial growers.

LIke you, I've taken cuttings at all times of the year and been successful. I doesn't matter to me if I stick 12 in and only get 2 - I probably only wanted 1 anyway.

If your method works for you then I would stick with it.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Never use hormone rooting powder now. Did in the distant past, but never found it made any difference to the success rate of my cuttings.

I don't bother with powder. Not that I do many cuttings. I have hopefully stuck some buddlea prunings in a pot if that counts.

            Anyone tried willow extract?

Apparently exttract made from soaking willow branches really helps cuttings to root faster. Could be useful with some of the difficult things

Don't know about concentration - will have to try some experiments
