  • Cucurbit I'd - help please!

Wonder if anyone can help, I've got a plant growing wild in the inherited greenhouse that appears to be some form of cucurbit. It's getting rather large and not sure if I should pull it out, cut it back or leave it.

Can anyone tell if its a good cucurbit, or a nasty weedy type? Have tried a few apps but they're not getting me past curcubitaceae as a genus. Click image for larger version

    Could be a Grape vine.

At the moment it's more like a triffid VC - trying to take over the greenhouse inside and out.

Sounds even more like a grape!

The flowers appear to be a mono-stem as opposed to a bunch - I'm not aware of any grapes that grew that way.

Sorry, I thought the flower was from another plant!

              Figleaf gourd or bitter melon?

Thanks Thelma, are they good eating? From the sounds of it I should leave it alone and see what it produces - just hope it leaves enough space for the toms and chillies

Looks like White Bryony to me, if so it is poisonous so don't go taste testing it :-) Quite common in the hedges around here and in my wilderness garden.

Just googled it Nick, it does look suspiciously like that - and there is a hedge along the north edge of the plot so it could well have come from there. I think the most sensible thing will be to clear it out so the kids don't grab anything potentially poisonous from the gh.
