  • Crop Rotation advice

    Hello

Being the Newbie that i am, last year i didn't really plant my veg according to their groups (i.e brassicas together etc), i just put stuff where ever.

This year, being ever so slightly more knowledgeable I am trying to do a plan to start me with crop rotation but last year has thrown me all out of sorts as i every group type has been planted everywhere (just about!)

Can i just write off last year & start this year as my first year crop rotation-wise? Does planting the same groups in the same place two years on the trot matter that much?

Start from scratch this year. After all, if you take over an allotment you are unlikely to know what has been where previously. The purpose is to prevent build up of diseases and depletion of nutrients by growing the same thing year after year in the same bed. A year won't matter so much. Hope it's a better growing year!

I’m the same not got a clue what was planted where so will have to take a chance and start from scratch on my Lottie, just hope things work ok and no nasty build up of diseases on the plot.

Me too - when digging my beds I did find a spot with some old carrots in it, but other than that I dont have a clue what was there last year so am starting from scratch this year and sowing in a plan that works for me (or at least I hope it will!).
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance
