  • confused by psb - it's flowering

Hi all, I have several psb plants in the garden flower beds. I will NEVER do this again as I am out there twice or 3 times a day gatting the bugs, eggs and caterpillars off lol and need a full-time gardener to help me with this task alone! Next year it will have it's own space with netting.

But I thought it was a winter veg (was sown april time). So how come one of them has flowered? I couldn't pick it and eat it before it did as we haven't got a cooker at the mo during building works at home.

If I cut it off will it get side shoots? And how come only one of them has done this - I have about 20 plants.

    Thanks - janeyo

I think that because so many people enjoy eating PSB (me included) the breeders have cottoned on and you can just about get it to fruition by using different varieties at any month in the year!

Even if you can't cook it, still pick it, as this encourages more shoots to form!

Are you sure it's PSB and not green Calabrese? (the word broccoli is used for 2 different things; blame T3sco)
Is it a winter variety or a summer PSB? Broccoli soil and site, broccoli care and sowing - page 2
My summer PSB is flowering now (also covered in caterpillars), but my winter ones are just about a foot tall (planted out in June)
