not sure about buying it, but if you know someone near you who has some, digging up a bit of root would be enough to start a new plant.

I don't think there would be any point in growing comfrey in a pot for long - one of the chief virtues of comfrey is its ability to extract "plant useful" chemicals from the sub-soil.

Doh, yeah would render it fairly pointless to rot down into a DIY feed if its got no nutrients!

Hello steveyeu and welcome o he vine

Where abouts are you? Are you n an allotment site? If so then there's a chance that one of the other plot holders has some comfrey and they may give you some root cuttings. If you don't know of anyone with it I have seen it sold on ebay.

As you've realised it's counter productive to grow it in a pot as the only nutrients you get out you would have had to feed the plant with in the first place. Comfrey has deep roots and once planted and established getting rid of it is hard work so make sure that you want to keep it where you plant it.

I recently bought some from here:

Buy Cultivated Comfrey (Bocking 14) here | ORGANICALLY GROWN

It arrived and is growing but too soon to tell much more than that!

I sometimes supply non-guaranteed boking-14 - you'll need to tell a very good joke - probably a rude one - and do quite a few useful posts You'll probably find that if you ask at a local allotment someone will be happy to let you have some...
