I've recently set my sole raised bed up for 7 x square foot slots. I'm having a little problem with pests, and also winds and rain. Does anybody know if there is a cloche type thing that would be suitable for the square foot slots? Up until not I've been using halved pop bottles with some holes in them, but digging them into the soil is sometimes disrupting the soil near other plants.

It's quite difficult isolating individual squares, a few years ago I made some 11" cubes of debris netting structures out of canes, leave the legs a tad longer so they can be pushed into the soil.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Unless anybody thinks otherwise I think I'll start collecting some smaller pop bottles for the smaller plants, and keep with the two litre ones for the larger, at least for now. Something like this picture.

You could do with some large water containers that they use in offices. Something like this:

I just walked past a load of those just now! They seem to be blue coloured though, will this stop the light getting through.
I have a feeling that the bottles I walked past are waiting to be collected by the water company, but I'll ask anyway.Comment

They do have a blue tinge but should be ok. See if the company has any cracked ones.............no good to them but useful to you...........
