  • Box is turning yellow

Wasnt sure what section to post this in so apologies if its in the wrong bit

Can anyone suggest a reason why one side of my new box hedge (planted last autumn) has hardly grown and is turning yellow, the other half looks green and healthy. The soil is a a few inches deeper on the healthy side and im guessing its that ?

could be drought on the one side, or it could be box blight? Box Blight - symptoms, cause and treatment

Sounds like the shallow side could be a bit dry. Give it a good water. Is this going to be an ongoing problem? How shallow is the soil? You might have to think about moving it if you don't have time to water every few days during dry weather

thanks for the replies, its not blight looking at those pics, i reckon you might be right vicky, its only an inch or two before i hit concrete (im trying to edge my front lawn with it and right up against the curb). i thought they were tougher than that, ill try more water and mulch, thanks again.

An inch or two of soil is really not enough for anything to survive, let alone grow well. If it were me, I think I'd sacrifice a foot of the lawn and make a proper border for the box.

Box is tough, but it can't grow in concrete !
Seriously, you need to plant it in a decent amount of soil. Either that, or plant buddleja, which does grow in concrete
