Beets can be sown in modules if you so wish.............not usually recommended but I know a lot of people who do it!

I have started beetroot in modules in a greenhouse in the past with no problem if you start them early you may be able to harvest a week or so early, If you are planning to sow direct into the ground you could try it however I don't think you will get much benefit if any

Last year I started some off loo rolls cos we were still clearing the bed. You can then put the whole thing in the ground without disturbing the roots.

I normally start collecting loo rolls (and get my neighbours saving theirs for me) but holly my Jack russell has got a fettish for them all of a sudden, she has to kill them then rip them into tiny bits.

So I have given up and started making pots from newspaper, I have put my peas in these and plan to do my beetroots next.

Last season I grew a lot of beetroot (about 1000) - mainly Cylindra and Chioggia - I started a lot in cells and sowed some direct - the plants started in cells outperformed the direct sown ones in every department, so it's cell sowing for me again

Jack Russels are to fast to go in the compost heap, you would never get them throught the shredder either

I have loads in bags in the shed - ever since I told my friends I collect them I have been inundated. Shame you're so far away from me or you could have them.

I've had more success with beetroot sown in modules and then transplanted before they get too big than I ever had sowing direct.

I've never tried beetroot in modules - think I'll give it a go.
