    Apple tree

    Evening all.

    I have just planted an apple tree on my plot (it was free from a fellow Lottie who wanted space).

    It's roots are about a foot in diameter (I tried not to break them)

    1. What and how close can I plant to the tree?

    2. What's the chances of getting fruit this year. The apples were amazing last year.

    How old is the tree, and what variety? That can make a difference. Mine is a falstaff apple, and it has fruited once, but never again and I've had it two years. Some trees, fall into a stride from their second year and get a maximum yield from being aged 5 years and beyond.

        Also find out what root stock its on if you can. Its a bit late to be moving the tree as its unlikely still dormant. Some aggressive pruning may be needed to rebalance the tree with the damage to the roots in moving, hopefully someone who knows more will see this and be able to advise (don't do anything on my advise alone). A picture may also help.
