  • Leggy Tomatoes

I planted my tomato seed in root trainers and they are all growing nicely. However, the outdoor tomatoes are getting quite leggy and I really don't want to put them outside for another couple of weeks. I've never grown them before but wanted to know what 'pinching out the tips' was (silly question I know!) Do I just take from the top or from the end of the trusses?
    Thanks

    Hi Cotton,

Pinching out the tips is done usually when the toms have reached the desired height, the main growing stem is nipped at the top. This will stop the plant getting any taller. If your toms are too leggy you can repot, potting the plant up to the first set of leaves, which will also encourage extra roots to grow. Hopefully this will cure the poblem.

Ah the joys of enthusiasm Eh Greenie It's common enough, I won't call it a mistake, most of us get withdrawl symptoms after christmas & have a desire to plant stuff & sow seeds Welcome to The Vine anyway.
