  • Manure problem

I would like to share my frustration and annoyance I'm experiencing at the moment. Last autumn I bought horse manure, kept it over winter and used it for mulching No Dig beds early spring, recently I have planted 100 tomatoes and lots of beans only to watch them slowly showing signs of weed killer contamination. All my work and time wasted not mentioning costs of seeds etc. Total set back and disappointment.

Local farmer who delivers muck to allotment for many years, never had any problems before until now.

Have the others on your site also been affected?

Its really a disgrace that this aminopyralid weed killer is still being used. I would have a word with the supplier and try and get some recompense. Its bad enough if the contaminated manure was for nothing but if you have paid for it the supplier needs to be made aware of its problems in no uncertain terms!

There are strict rules about what you can do with manure if you’ve used certain weed killers. Your farmer may have broken the law....

Really sorry to hear this is still happening.
It happened to us about 15 years ago.
It's going to contaminate your beds for quite a while now

Where are you located? This is a fear of mine and the reason I’ve stopped collecting any manure, a guy on our site delivers it but not offering any guarantee on weedkiller used.
