    And yet again another "Cunning Plan".......

    I have a smallish shed with guttering leading into a 1000 litre IBC tank.

    My cunning plan is to extend the catchment area for the IBC is to make four triangular pieces to fit over the IBC top. As the frame is higher than the tank inlet hole the water will then be directed towards the tank filling hole thereby giving me another one metre square of catchment for rain water. In essence a giant funnel over the tank.

    You could do it with an upturned garden umbrella frame lined with plastic, resting on top of the IBC.

    Please note that I have never been anywhere near an IBC and really have no idea what they're like but, a tarpaulin stretched between tree branches, makes a good water catchment if you're lost in the jungle.

      an IBC is a large plastic walled approx cube with a screw lid and a nominal capacity of 1000L - in their native from they are housed in a metal cage, often with a pallet underneath, but by the time they get to the gardener the outer bits are often long gone.

        It's no good... whenever I hear or see IBC, my mind automatically reads 'inter ballistic continental'. Sorry. Anyway, they're very useful items, VC. Middle photo in the top row in this Wikipedia page is what most people have as an intermediate bulk container for water:

            Nice idea!
            I have a couple of them at the bottom of the field near one of our potagers and had thought of making a panel a bit like one side of a shed roof over them with guttering .
            I love the idea of a funnel though!
            Think our field is too exposed and windy for something flimsy....

            Would love to see piccies of yet another of your masterpieces in the making Snadge!!

              Just to clarify, I know what they look like from photos but I've never seen one in the flesh and stroked it. Its size, in comparison to a chicken, is unknown.

                          iv'e made a roof out of three corrugated sheets (6ft long) that where on my plot and a scafhold frame , at the side of the IBC so it also gives me a covered storage area to store more junk, I got the idea from someone on here who had thier IBC stuck out in the open with a roof stuck on the side ! atb Dal.

                              So looking at that, under the battery system of keeping chickens you could probably house about 27 chickens in there!(Shocking really.)
