Not sure, thinking apple or quince - but leaning more towards quince, something to do with the leaf texture

I agree slightly but the leaf size is huge, at least 6" from stem to tip, rather large for an apple variant.

          Has it flowered this year?
I "think" triploid apples have larger than normal leaves.

Pretty sure VC is right and its an apple - doesn't look like any type I know eater, cooker or crab - will be possible to give a better answer hopefully, if the fruit develops and you can post a photo of those - might simply be a seedling.

Seems early to have fruit - compared to my apple trees?

The picture with fruit is from last season around 20 August.
It's taken a wee while for me to get round to posting the pictures.
The attached photo is from the same tree yesterday, albeit a little wilted as I forgot to put it in water overnight.

beats me - if you get fruit this year please pick one and cut it in half, then post a photo of what you find - the seeds ought to give us a better indication of what sort of fruit it is.

Um, hard to tell on my screen... but could it be a large-leaved lime? I'm not sure about the fruitlets, though.

In a natural burial ground, in very chalky ground

Do the burial ground owners keep records of which tree is planted where?
