  • Broken olive tree},

    Hi all

Newbie and lurker here! Back in February in high winds my small olive tree fell over and the stem snapped my husband has bound it with electrical tape and it seems to be holding well.

Question is will it rebind together fully or will it always have that weakness and likely to break again? It's still growing well and getting new growth so that's positive I think!

    Thanks

bit like breaking a bone in your arm, except the tree will keep strengthening gradually - if there was good contact after your husband bound it up, then it will be almost as though it never happened in a few years.

PS don't forget to cut the tape in about 6 months time so it doesn't get too tight.

Happened to my apple tree a side branch broke when pot tipped over in the wind last year. Ground at allotment was too hard to dig a hole last summer to plant so I was doubly cross when it happened as am espalier training it.

Did the same, bound it up with electrical tape. Removed it a couple of weeks ago and it has healed up perfectly and seems as strong as the no broken branch so I’d say it will more likely be fine, I’d have a look in August time as to how it’s doing and to make sure you aren’t resisting it and re-tape it if in any doubt.
