  • Outdoor lights

I want to get my garden lit up for the evenings.
Not sure exactly what I want but have an arch ( it's a square thing really) that would look lovely lit up - I can get electric to this as I've an outdoor socket with two plugs.

And maybe something along my back wall - no electric there.

Anyone have their gardens lit up? Got an photos? What do you use?

I know my Mum fairy lights in her GH and JackArmy does too... but would like the stuff closer to the house be light enough to have dinner outside if possible

Hi Scarlet, we have wall lights in the garden.
    Electrically run.
We also have some inexpensive battery and solar powered ones.
The solar powered ones are a hit and miss what with the lack of sun, but they work mostly.
We also have battery powered lanterns and a few old fashioned paraffin storm lanterns.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Do spare a thought for any neighbours, not everyone likes having their own garden lit up all night by next door's illuminations.
        Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
        Endless wonder.

I don't have any neighbours, my neighbours are opposite ( I have to cross a main road) it's pitch black up the garden at night. We just ate dinner out - in at 10.30, but we had to light half a dozen candles to see our plates - a bit of light around wouldn't disturb anyone here.

My mother has cheap solar powered stick lights dotted about the place. Not powerful enough to give a vast amount of illumination but enough to see where the path is.

Or you could get some floodlights.

I would go with decorative solar lights, for as jay-ell said lighting the path and oil lamps for lighting to eat with
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Tried adding to the above, but didn't work.
You could add something to the oil to perfume the fumes, thereby getting a perfumed garden

I love fairy lights, but all the different ones I've bought never last more than one season, if that. I'd like permanently installed fairy lights around my garden, plugged in to the electric if I must... Where do you get hold of them? lol

I recommend head torches - but don't sit opposite each other or you'll be blinded.

Seriously, I've tried all sorts of outdoor lighting options. Most of the cheap solar fairy lights don't last very long but, I have some in the GH with the solar panel outside and that has been going for a couple of years. (Poundstretcher). I "think" the wiring suffers if left outside in the weather but protected under cover its better. Not bright enough to eat by IMO.

I bought some outdoor battery lights from https://www.lighting-direct.co.uk/outdoor.html, sensor operated to light up when coming home in the dark but they sell lots of different outdoor lights, the stake ones that stick in the ground could be good. Plenty are LED these days. They responded quickly to my emails. https://www.thelightingsuperstore.co...tdoor-lighting have a big selection as well. Screwfix and Hombase as well.

Just reading this again VC, I think at the age Scarlet must be she will be old enough to know the way to her mouth in the dark

Scarlet must be older than me then, as I need a torch.

We have had all sorts of solar lights over the years Scarlett.
Currently using fence lights, which look very smart
