  • British-Irish Dialect Quiz

We often have discussions on here about local words and this Quiz covers most of them! It was very accurate for me - South Wales.

It put me near Reading, which is a bit west of my true origins, but I think it was confused by a) a Mum who insisted we 'speak proper' and b) a smattering of words adopted from childhood holidays in Cumbria.

Pretty accurate, though. I love this kind of thing.

Close but not quite right, I was born and raised in Leicestershire, they had me down for Nottinghamshire, which ironically is the only county near my birthplace I have not either lived or worked in.

The first section gave me the whole of Yorkshire, Lancashire, most of Cumbria and goodness knows where else. The extended section narrowed it down a bit more.

What if you click the "Not English" button? Does it work then?

I have tried that as well, just in case but no joy. Never mind....

                        Worked perfectly for me.
Put me in my place of birth...Dublin.

Thelma, it could be that it's running some script and that you've got a setting in your browser that blocks it. In the address bar, do you get a little shield icon that warns you of scripts that your browser has blocked maybe?

I clicked the non-english button, and remarkably it placed me in the Lincolnshire area! Does that mean I'm an adopted yella belly now?
