Seed Trays

I use these from Wilk0s

I've had them for years and they're fine.
The cheap, flimsy, flexible seed trays and modules are useless.

The only dirt cheap ones I've bought and actually quite like, are rectangular modules with propagator lids from B&M for a couple of quid and they've lasted surprisingly well. They are very small modules though.

I use the same as VC too, as they're larger and keep well.

I can't remember when I last used a seed tray. I tend to sow in pots as I only want a small number of plants - you can easily raise 12 lettuce seedlings in a 3 inch pot. I then pot them on into either individual pots or modules.

I find most modules infuriating, but last year I discovered these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Garland-Cel...ed+success+kit which are sturdy and very good. I have the 12 cell ones which are more expensive per cell, but fit nicely on a windowsill. They have larger holes in the bottom than the normal cells and it is reasonably easy to push the plants out by poking a pencil or stick through the bottom (the suggested method of using the insert upside down to push the plants out didn't work very well).

If I'm sowing small seed I usually use either old plastic trays that had veg or ice cream in, or may be just a plastic pot.

For larger stuff like peas or beans I use wooden trays. I make them out of recycled pallet wood and old scavenged plywood. I prefer them to plastic trays as I can make them deeper and with built in handles - I also use them for apple storage in the Autumn. I also use plastic troughs of the sort some people use for window boxes, but I only have a couple of those.

I use old fruit punnets from the supermarket. They have good size holes and because they've had bigger fruit in like 6 pack of nectarines or similar they are deepish so great for peas and beans.

I reuse bigger taller pots for leeks as can leave them to get long roots nicely without having to pot on. It lasts until I'm ready to plant out.

Trying to use any plastic from the house where I can as seed trays but failing that old pots.

Bottom of plastic milk cartons for various size pots.
And as mentioned, recycled pallet wood for bespoke trays.

Got to agree with Veggiechicken, the seed trays from Wilko are superb compared to the usual flimsy rubbish on the market, although they seem to be learning from Amazon, my last 10 trays came in a box big enough for a water butt!

Another vote for the wilko trays here, I�ve been buying the individual little square pots too. I think they�re 10 for �1 and seem much more solid than a standard tray insert.

I have a stack of the wilko ones too. Also a few my parents bought before they had me (they have lasted v well!), and a few wooden boxes which I cadged from the grocers begore they threw them out

I have the thin green plastic trays from the garden centre and also reuse plastic packaging trays, the ones that you buy mushrooms in are particularly useful as they are quite deep.

Same as Ted's Mum.
I use the blue mushroom containers.
Also have a lot of good sturdy green trays , half size of the usual ones.
I try to reuse as much as possible as I am on a mission to get rid of plastic.
