  • Wood carving

I have been getting logs delivered recently and I am trying to work out which hardwood tree species they come from?
Now I have a bit of time on my hands I fancy giving wood carving a go.

I've had a set of wood carving chisels for ages but never had time to try them out.

Of course this would be after I have built an outdoor workbench, made a set of wrought iron gates for my house, put up security lights back and front, built an Orangery on the rear of the house and finished plumbing and tiling the bathroom.

Come to think of it wood carving may need to take a back seat for a while. Do any other grapes dabble with wood carving and if so I wouldn't mind seeing some of your efforts for inspiration.

I don't do much carving now though I have done a little in the past - I do have a a lathe and occasionally do a bit of turning. If you'd like to post a few photos of the logs, its possible I could identify some of them.

A few years ago I used a band saw, Dremmel and a sharp knife to make this chap from an old table leg. He stands two feet tall.

Looks like you might have some Easter Islanders among your ancestors.
