Strawberry runners

I've got a theory.
My "Wild Strawberries" had not been very productive outside. Every chance they get they produce runner in place of fruit.
In July, I planted up a hanging basket and they have been producing fruit ever since. Everyday or so I get a teacup of small white and red berries (in October). The runners are unable to root, so they produce flowers instead Because they were next to the peppers and tomatoes, they got a wee something during the fertilizer days.
Moving on to cropping berries. I have some this year too with flowers. They tend to be above ground on a mat of runners (air around their roots), so because they can't root, they are producing fruit.
What you think?
