  • Begonias

My Wife has asked me to plant some Apricot Begonias next year.
Should I wait and buy plugs next Spring or try them from seed?
    P.S. I've never grown flowers
    Thanks in advance
    Jim

There's also tubers! If you get plants going early you can bulk up by taking cuttings.

As she wants the apricot variety I think I would order the plugs online.
I have never grown them but my MIL always had begonias in her garden and they flowered profusely all through Summer right upto the first frosts.

Tubers should also give bigger / vigorous plants?

LOL That's what she wants to do, but I love growing from seed if possible. It makes my day to see shoots coming through and growing

I also love growing from seed but I think they are tricky and need good lighting for an early flowering?

For small pots try Sutherlandii. It has masses of small orangey flowers.

If you put it in a frost free greenhouse so it dies back naturally it'll form lots of nodules on stems, each of which will form a new plant next season.

I’d get tubers as they grow much bigger and if you dig them up and keep frost free in a garage/shed over winter in a net or paper bag you can grow them again each year.

What area is your garden in, you can grow trailing tuberus begonias from seed but I would recommend buying them from Jersey plants/Nurseries Direct (same company) they have various sizes to pick from, and having used them my self I would recommend them
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
