  • 1st Geese of the Season

Autumn must be here. The 1st Geese of the season flew over this morning and all the swallows have gone. News yesterday was to expect 4 months of snow. Perhaps there is some truth in that prediction.

Best batten down the hatches and get things in order

The Pink Footed Geese have been here for a couple of weeks now, I note it's been snowing in Scandinavia and Greenland and Iceland, so they will head south when that starts. The Summer visitors were streaming south when I was fishing on Arbroath beach last Friday, so I think the shortening days have as much to do with that as any likely bad weather coming our way.

We've had our usual geese flying over for about 2-3 weeks now and it's lovely to hear them. Usually the fields near us are covered with them, but this year they've been ploughed over so they'll have to find somewhere else to graze.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

Perhaps they have been here a few days. Was just today with the nice clear day I noticed them fly over, heading inland.

They will be off feeding on the barley/wheat sprouts where the fields are still in stubble.

It'll be a race against the plough now

Expect to see them about 8:00 as they return to the estuary

Mr stoat was about again today. Just caught sight of him running across the yard being mobbed by jackdaws

we've had a load congregating here for a few days now, maybe ours gave a shout out to yours to come for a stopover, seems to be loads more than normal.
