  • potatoes have not flowered

Hi - I dug up all my Jazzy spuds today - the yield was much less than last year - lots of spuds but many very small. I also have King Eds, the foliage is just dying off - and Sarpo, foliage still going strong. None of these produced any flowers. Anyone else had a lack of flowers?

Probably due to the weather. My spuds have been hit and miss. Some flowered, some haven't. All my early's were small, my main crop wasn't too bad.

My earlies were very small as well but main crop did OK as watered a couple of times, still a few waiting to be dug up. Didn't notice if any had flowers as just check that the foliage is good. Different to what an organic farmer was saying in July. She said her early crop was good but if it didn't rain soon she wouldn't have any main crop spuds. I've not seen her lately to enquire but assume she is unlikely to have any lates to sell.

From what I understand spuds don't always flower. When the time is about right I have a furtle or dig up a test plant to check.

My earlies weren't that hot - they were in pots and I found it hard to keep them adequately watered.

I was happy with my main crop and have yet to see what my second croping will be like (another month or so toi go although they started flowering a week ago)

Both my potato crops were very good this year.
          Maris Piper and Arran Pilot.
Planted them out in early to mid March in the open ground.
It was cold and wet when they were planted but had a great crop.

My Charlottes didn't flower this year and they usually do, I just put it down to the hot weather.

Thanks for your replies. I will be interested to see what my later crops are like.
