  • Made my bed

I decided today to remove some of the tomato plants so that I could get my raised bed made, it is 8ft long by 2ft 9ins. wide by1ft 3in. deep. I made up my frame and lined it with polythene this is to keep the wood dry, I then placed a large sheet of polythene over the frame and fitted it to make the bed once the sheet was in place I,started to lay turf on the baseClick image for larger version

The turf came from what I had removed when fitting my edging around the grass

the fact that I had some worms present some may think that's nothing to be pleased with, but as I have/had flat worms in the garden I am delighted to see earth worms

Once I had the base covered I then placed layers of newspaper over itClick image for larger version

Which I soaked with my comfrey tea and my seaweed tea, I also cut some slits into the side of the sheeting this should allow a sump to be kept in the bed and allow excess water to,drain out and as the wood is lined it should stay dry the paper then got covered with a layer of grass cuttingsClick image for larger version

I intend to grow some crops over the winter in this bed but ultimately it is for growing tomatoes next year
I better not tell OH I have made a bed in the greenhouse or she will tell me that's all I needed, so as you have made your bed you can lie on it

As you can see I wasn't finished, hence the second post and to finish that off I will scatter some rock dust over the compost add three or four bags of seaweed then top off with some soil from my courgette/pumpkin bed
I really need to do the larger posts on the computer the kindle keyboard is too small for normal hands

You'd better be nice to me now, rary, or I'll change it back again.

                      Thanks VC

But you didn't need to highlight it
                      And Snoop don't encourage her

A well and thoroughly prepared bed. What are you going to plant over winter?
